The bad news? It’s the final season. The good news? Season 11 consists of 24 episodes, with the first 12 airing in 2021 and the final 12 debuting in 2022. That’s a lot of zombies!
The final season, which premieres today on Binge, will be split into three, eight-episode long mini-arcs centring on The Commonwealth, the aftermath of the attack on Alexandria, and, of course, the tense, complicated relationship between Maggie (the returning Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
Showrunner Angela Kang previewed the final season during a recent interview with Decider.
“In our world, there’s only that sense of danger that lingers. And so, hopefully, we always feel that nobody’s safe, even if it feels like there’s plot armour, because there are just so many different kinds of danger,” Kang said.

“And we know from the comic book, it’s not a story where everybody dies at the end. It’s a story that it’s more about how civilisation builds itself.
“But within that, of course, there’s incredible danger and stakes. And so, that’s what we’re going for, as we try to stay true to the spirit of the story.”
